Serving the North Island Region of Vancouver Island, the Society
offers several programs for intervention and the prevention of violence against women and
children. There are no fees charged to anyone using any of the services provided by
the CRNITS.
ANN ELMORE HOUSE is a short-term emergency shelter which provides safe shelter for emotionally, sexually and physically abused women and their children. The shelter provides food, some clothing and basic personal necessities for over 250 women and children each year. call 286-3666 GOLD RIVER SAFE HOME PROGRAM; safe shelter for women and their dependent children in the Gold River area who have experienced, or are at risk of abuse, threats or violence. call 286-3666 SUPPORTED RECOVERY to assist women who are in the early stages of recovery from substance misuse. This is a residential program for up to 4 weeks. An educational component of the program assists women in understanding their addiction and works on developing skills and systems to prevent relapse. call 286-3666 24 HOUR TELEPHONE HELP LINE to serve women in crisis and anyone who needs help in dealing with issues of violence and abuse in their lives, or in the life of someone they know. 286-3666 TOLL FREE 1-800 TELEPHONE SERVICE to assist women living outside the Campbell River call area to access the services provided at Ann Elmore House. 1-800-667-2188 COUNSELLING AND SUPPORT for women who are resident at Ann Elmore House and community-based programs for women who do not come into the shelter. Counsellors help victims of violence determine their options and to break the cycle of violence for themselves and their children. STOPPING THE VIOLENCE COUNSELLING IN GOLD RIVER; counselling program for women in and around Gold River. For women who are dealing with issues of present or historical abuse. call 286-3666 CHILDREN'S IN-HOUSE COUNSELLING PROGRAM for children who are resident at Ann Elmore House. One-to-one sessions with qualified child support workers combine a variety of techniques to help children cope with the trauma of family violence. REFERRAL, ADVOCACY AND INFORMATION services to provide information and assistance in dealing with legal and social service agencies. Referrals are also made to appropriate community agencies. PUBLIC AND PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION to increase awareness about issues of violence (including dating violence and elder abuse), safety for women and children, support services available to women who have been battered, programs for children who witness family violence and programs for batterers.
REMEMBER Children are affected by abuse in the home. Children witness 80% of assaults on their mothers and what children don't see also affects them. Children are hurt by the atmosphere of tension and fear in which abusive families live.
