For many years we went out in our boat and marvelled at the natural beauty of the British Columbia Coastline. We explored channels that went between mountains streaming with water falls. We swam in the warm waters of Desolation Sound and we saw the bears, the deer and the whales.
Just when we thought we had found heaven, we began to discover many other features of this rugged coastline. We discovered evidence of the people who were here before us. Along the coast we would spot old pilings or rusting pieces of machinery. Often we could piece together enough to determine what these people were doing here or we could find local authors of books on our coast history to put it all together.
Then it happened.... We found evidence of a culture that even predated the loggers and the fishers and the canneries along the coast.
I think it was in Pendrell Sound were we found our first rock paintings or Pictographs as they are called. This new discovery of ours lead to more and more sightings of these artifacts along with more and more pictures of each discovery. If that wasn`t enough, we also found rock carvings called Petroglyphs. After a few years of this new discovery we realized that we had accumulated boxes of pictures (an old phenomenon that predates digital cameras).
We decided to put this together in a format that shows not only the artifacts but where they are located. As we find more of them and as other boaters send us pictures and locations, we will add to this site.
